COMBINATION OF P20 TOOL STEEL AND ACRYLONITRILE BUTADIENE STYRENE FOR INJECTION MOLDING: A PRACTICAL APPROACH

Abstract


In Pakistani industries, again and again repair of the injection molds is very common. This practice not only reduces the productivity but it also affects the quality level of the products. One of the main reasons for this reduction in quality is the use of repairing and filling materials other than the injection mould material. To overcome these problems, P20 is one of the chrome-moly tool steels which can be used. Because it can be used as filler material during die repairing and welding. In this research properties and other specifications of the P20 has been deeply discussed. It is also observed that the combination of die material and component material have considerable effect on the surface finish and dimensional accuracy of the component. It is observed in literature survey that P20 as a die material and Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene are an excellent combination. To verify the findings, in this research an injection molding die for stamp pad was manufactured. Its surface integrity including microstructure was examined and also the dimensional accuracy of the manufactured component i.e. Stamp Pad, has been investigated.
