Two Axis Motion Simulator: Design And Dynamic Analysis

This work mainly aims at presenting mechanical design methodology of Two Axis Motion Simulator based on azimuth/elevation configuration by using Pro/ Engineer for CAD modeling and MSC PATRAN/NASTRAN for structural strength and stiffness. The paper gives out the lowest order natural frequency of the system for designing and development of the system, and the corresponding deflection at an assumed 60 kg load for worst case. Calculations are made for the design of the weld joints, bolted joints used in the mechanical structure of the two-axis motion simulator. Dynamic analysis of the system is done to estimate for the torque requirements and material selection. The estimation of the shaft diameters that are the main parameter to start with the design of the system are estimated using the design code. The simulation results verify the structural integrity of the system and the procedure used can be employed as a useful reference for the designing of various motion simulators.
