Effect of Magnesium Concentration and Temperature on the Morphology and Chemical Composition of Anodized Layer of Al Alloys

Anodizing process is used to increase the corrosion resistance of aluminum alloys. This study deals with the effects of magnesium concentration present in different aluminum alloys on anodized layer. The anodized layers were developed on AA5083, AA2024 and AA606 alloys at 25oC and 55oC by dipping them in Sulphuric Acid for 40 min. After anodizing, these specimens were examined by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX). The results showed that the magnesium increases the thickness of anodized layer at 25oC and decreases at 55oC due to the hindrance produce by Mg ions.
