A Flow Visualization Study of Thin Liquid Film Formed due to Centrifugal Force
Abstract
Performance of a surface to conduct Heat/Mass transfer to the liquid flowing depends upon the thickness of film the liquid form over the surface. A rotating surface because of centrifugal force tends to thin and accelerate the film mechanics which translates into higher Heat/Mass transfer coefficients. However the performance of such surfaces also depends on continuity of the film over the surface, volute formation and percentage of area covered with the film. The main motivation of the present study is to determine the minimum flow rates, at different rotational speeds required to cover the entire surface of the disk with minimum thickness.
